ProForm ZT6 Treadmill Review
ProForm is a name that is well-established in the fitness industry – they are well-known throughout the world for offering high quality products like the Proform zt6 treadmill. While there are many different machines for exercising, like the Schwinn exercise bike, Bowflex treadclimber and the Proform 505 cst treadmill, if you’re on a budget, the best treadmill, in our opinion, would be the Proform zt6 treadmill.
Summary of the Proform zt6 Treadmill
The Proform ZT6 treadmill has a 2.5 CHP Mach Z Commercial Motor and is capable of offering speeds up to 10 mph with an incline up to 10%. Simply by touching a button, you can jump between these settings, without having to stop your workout.
As with all Proform treadmills, the deck uses a ProShox cushioning system that has four individual shock absorbers nesting below the deck. With the cushioning system, you don’ have to worry about putting much strain on your body. After you run on this treadmill, your knees, hips and ankles are going to thank you.
The console is packed full of features such as a total of 18 programmed workouts. The workouts are specifically designed with the user in mind. It is also iPod compatible, so you will be able to listen to music on the built-in speakers as you work out.
When all is said and done and you’ve completed your workout for the day, you can easily fold the treadmill up and store it out of your way. With the ProForm ZT6, we’re pretty sure you’re not going to be disappointed.
If you take the Proform ZT6 and put it next to the ProForm Performance 400i, you’ll find that they are almost identical. The biggest difference would be in the console. With the 400i console, it is wired to use iFit and it has the Watts meter as the centerpiece. When it comes to the Proform ZT6 treadmill, unfortunately, iFit isn’t an option, but there is a menu of preset programs.
What We Like about the Proform zt6
It Offers Workout Guidance
The console isn’t compatible with iFit, but you have plenty of workout guidance. With 18 preset workouts that have been designed by certified personal trainers, you won’t get bored. These workout programs are placed into four categories: Speed, Calories, Intensity and Incline. The Performance 400i also has 18 programs, but they are only categorized as Interval Training and Tempo.
We definitely like the fact that you will be saving some space with this treadmill. You can tilt the deck upward in order to save floor space after those workouts. This makes it a great treadmill for a small home or apartment.
The power incline on the Proform zt6 isn’t that bad either. It’s an automatic ramp and in all honesty, we were surprised to find it on the zt6, because this is something that many discount treadmills are lacking. On this particular treadmill, there’s a maximum 10% incline that offers targeted muscle toning and a metabolic boost.
With the 18 preset workouts, users will have a lot of exercise guidance. The workout programs were designed by certified personal trainers and they fall into four categories. The four categories include Incline, Speed, Intensity and Calories. What’s neat is that the programs will automatically adjust the treadmill’s speed and incline with the maximums being 10 mph and a 10% incline. This way, while you’re working out, you don’t have to stop and adjust the incline setting because of the program you chose – it automatically does it for you.
Grip Heart Rate Monitor
The heart rate monitor isn’t a bad thing. The heart rate sensors are built into the handlebars, which is something we personally like. This way, you can easily obtain the readings while you’re working out. Of course, this data isn’t hospital-accurate, but it is enough to offer some guidance. Some users may choose to use a FitBit device or similar device with their treadmills instead of the built-in heart rate monitor.
When you exercise on a treadmill, you don’t want to workout on something that makes it feel like you’re walking on asphalt – this isn’t good for your joints. This treadmill offers ProShox cushioning – that’s something that ProForm puts in all of their treadmills. ProShox cushioning is responsible for reducing stress on the joints by up to 28% - this is much better compared to outdoor tracks.
When you workout, listening to music helps you keep the pace. This particular treadmill has an iPod-compatible port along with Intermix Acoustics 2.0 speakers built-in.
What We Don’t Like about the Proform zt6
While there are many fine features that make this budget friendly treadmill stand out from the crowd of the other discount treadmills, there are some concerns that we believe you should know about. Mind you, for many, these concerns won’t matter, but others may not like …
The fact that it has no workout fan. That’s right, even though there was more than enough room on this machine to include one, ProForm did not include a workout fan to help keep you cool during those workouts. On most of the other ProForm treadmills on the market, you’ll find a workout fan built-in.
The fact that the track is small. If you have long legs, this track may be too small for you. A 55” track is too short for many runners and some walkers. Unlike some of the more expensive treadmill tracks, this one right here was not designed for longevity.
The fact that the warranty is below average. Honestly, the warranty package really is below average. Yes, there’s lifetime coverage on the frame, which is nice but how many times have you seen a frame break on a treadmill? We can’t think of any. There’s also 25 years for the motor, which is decent, but it’s the year for parts and labor that we don’t like – that is well below average.
The fact that the motor isn’t as powerful. The motor on the ZT6 Treadmill isn’t the most powerful one on the block. It’s a 2.5 CHP motor and if you’re familiar with ProForm, you’d realize this isn’t exactly their best one.
Despite it all, the ProForm ZT6 treadmill may not be the best treadmill on the block when you compare it to the more expensive models, but it really is one of the best discount treadmills you will find. It doesn’t include a fan built-in to the machine and while a fan would have been nice, in all actuality, it’s not a deal breaker. If the fan is a big issue to you, you could easily set up an external fan in front of you. There’s fans you can buy that can easily clip on to the machine, which are pretty cool. The motor isn’t super powerful, but for many, this isn’t all that big of a deal. The warranty is below average, but we haven’t read any reviews where the warranty was even needed. The treadmill, after all, is by ProForm, which is one of the best companies in the industry. The 55” track could have been larger, but if you don’t plan on running at full stride, again, this isn’t that big of a deal. The treadmill has extra cushioning (we’re glad they included ProShox) that helps eliminate stress on your joints while you’re working out. Having speakers built-in to the machine is pretty cool, because this means you don’t have to bring a pair of headphones with you during your workout, unless you really want to. The grip heart rate monitor is nice, but we read reviews where some people preferred the type that straps onto your chest, which isn’t included. There’s 18 workout programs already installed on the machine, which should be more than enough to keep you occupied.
All in all, if you’re looking for a decent treadmill and you don’t have a whole lot of money to spend on one, then the Proform ZT6 treadmill is a viable option. It is definitely a great treadmill for beginners.
