ProShox Cushioning

The ProShox Cushioning will help to reduce the impact on your joints and you can have a more comfortable workout. There is the EKG Heart Rate Monitor displaying your heart rate on the backlit LCD as long as you hold on to the handlebars with the sensors. What it doesn’t come with is a chest strap heart rate monitor but you can get the Bluetooth wireless chest strap which is compatible but sold separately.

 

CoolAire Workout Fan

There is a CoolAire Workout Fan which was inbuilt and will keep you cool while exercising and is controlled by a Quick console, allowing you to adjust the speed. It has a 0-15% incline. The 15% incline offers a challenging workout and helps work on your muscle groups. The Quick Control lets you control the incline without having to interrupt your strides just by the touch of a button.

 

iPod Compatible

It has an iPod Compatible Port that will give you the pleasure of listening to your favorite music while working out to achieve your goals more pleasurably. Your MP3 or iPod can be just plugged into Intermix Acoustics 2.0 Sound System and the music will come out of the 2” sized speakers.

Treadmill Belt

The treadmill belt is important. The treadmill belt is your walking or running area. The minimum width of the belt (just to protect the integrity of the belt itself) is 17 inches, however average widths range from 18 to 22 inches.

The minimum length of the belt is usually around 50 inches. Some compact treadmills come in around 45 inches which most people find extremely short – and you may feel like you’re right on the edge of the belt.

If you’re taller, plan on running, or have longer legs, I'd recommend at least a 56" belt so you’re not worried about falling off the treadmill.

 (Make sure to consider the height of anyone else who will be using the treadmill as well.) Most standard home treadmill belts are 2 ply. Some commercial models come with 4-ply belts which are heartier and will stand up to heavier use. A 1-ply belt will obviously not give you as much wear and tear as a 2 or 4-ply.

However, there is one thing to consider: make sure your motor power can handle the size of your belt. (If you have a large belt and a low motor power, you can quickly burn out your motor).

Stability

Stability means the treadmill won’t shake or wobble when you pick up your pace. There’s nothing worse than paying hundreds for a treadmill – and then being scared to use it because it shakes so much.

Treadmill stability varies across the board; however there are a few things you can look at to judge the stability of your machine. First of all, a heavier machine weight will make it feel more stable. So while it may be a pain in the you-know-what to move, a heavy treadmill will feel more solid and stable than a lighter treadmill.

User weight capacity is also something you can look at. User weight capacities vary from 200 pounds up to 500 pounds. The higher, the better. Generally, the higher the user weight capacity - the more stable the machine will feel.

The last way to judge stability is to try the machine out if possible. Run on it and see how it feels. See if it shakes or wobbles when you run on it. Don’t be afraid to crank up both the speed and incline to see if the machine can keep up with you.

 

Treadmill Cushioning

Treadmill cushioning is the ability of the treadmill to absorb the force of your step. Better cushioning means lower impact on your joints and ligaments. Cushioning is extremely important as poor cushioning can cause injury, shin splints and muscle strain. It’s even more important to runners than occasional walkers.

Many quality treadmills have their own form of cushioning system to protect you. And they will probably explain their system in their sales literature if they have put money into making a good cushioning system. Another good rule of thumb is that as you go up in price, you’re going to get a better cushioning system, all else being equal.

Incline

This treadmill has a 0-15% incline, which is pretty good. This is the option to put the treadmill belt on a slope and walk uphill. Most motorized treadmills today come with power incline (where you can change the incline with the touch of a button from the console). However some manual treadmills come with manual incline (where you have to get off the treadmill to change the incline). Most motorized treadmill will give you from 0 – 10% or 0 – 15% incline. What you choose is up to you, however keep in mind that even if you can do 10% incline now, as your body gets in better shape, you may want the challenge of going up to a 15% incline. Incline trainers will give you even more room to grow with up to 40% incline. So it’s up to you what you prefer to do in terms of incline.

When to Workout

The ProForm ZT10 really is a great workout machine, don’t you think? However, the time of the day you choose to workout can have a major impact on the overall situation. We highly recommend working out during the morning hours, right before you have breakfast.  If you can, try working out on your treadmill in the morning on an empty stomach. This will burn calories faster – here’s why. Normally when you workout, your body has to first burn stores of glycogen from your liver before it starts to dip into your fat storage. This can take from 30 to 45 minutes. But when you work out in the morning, your glycogen stores have already been used up overnight – so you go virtually straight into fat burning. This also has the effect of revving your metabolism and keeping it high for the rest of the day.
