Nordictrack X9i Incline Trainer IFIT ENABLED Review

The nordictrack x9i is personally one of our cardio trainers for this year. It is perfect if you’re wanting to shed some pounds quickly because of the dramatic slope range of -6 percent to 40 percent. Whether you plan on walking or jogging, if you exercise on a steep slope, you will burn a large amount of calories quickly – it’s much better than flat training. You will also have the option to take advantage of the same benefits that runners do, without having to worry about the harsh impact it has on your joints.

The nordictrack x9i is one of the best Nordictrack treadmills, nesting next to the nordictrack c900 and the Nordictrack commercial 1750. It has a total of 44 workout apps, which we personally find interesting. The optional iFit Coach integration is a major eye catcher and the wireless heart rate monitoring system is definitely something that is needed.

Here’s a picture of the nordictrack x9i after it is put together:

The X9i is 1 of 3 NordicTrack Incliner Trainer models that came out in 2017. This one just so happens to be the mid-level option that you have available and is a step up from the X7i, which you may have heard of. It’s a big step up from the X7i if you think about the console electronics in it. On another note, we’re going to be honest with you and tell you that it isn’t as powerful at the X11i.

Basically, if you’re into power walking and jogging, then the X9i is suitable for you. For those individuals that like to train at higher speeds, then the X11i would be more suitable.

At the time of writing this review, the full price for a new nordictrack x9i treadmill is $2,999, but many stores are selling them for discounted prices. This model right here carries the standard five-year parts and electronics warranty and is being sold with a nice money-back guarantee, so really, there are no risks.

What We Like About the nordictrack x9i

Looking at the nordictrack x9i, we find many features that we like. In this section of the review, we’re going to tell you about the features that we think you will like.

Lower Stress on Your Joints

When you have the option to choose either regular treadmill training or incline training, if you want something that is easier on your knees, you should go for incline training. This is because with incline training, it shifts your body in a way that takes the stress from your knees. In addition to this, the nordictrack x9i has what is called Reflex cushioning. Running on a cushioning is better on your joints and will make exercising more comfortable – it’s especially great if you plan on exercising for longer period. However, on the same note, if you prefer a more on-the-road approach to your exercise routine, you can easily deactivate the cushioning. If you’re currently training for an outdoor race, this option would be useful.

Incline and Decline

With the incline and decline option, almost anything is possible. You can tone up those calves and receive excellent cardio workouts all at one time. The power-adjustable ramp has settings that can take you from -60% to 40%. If you chose 40%, you’re going to burn calories five times quicker than you would if you were to walk on a flat surface. Another benefit to using the incline feature at different settings would be the fact that you will be able to focus on different parts of your legs. The decline training option isn’t available on most fitness machines, and this option will let you work on those same muscle groups in a variety of ways.

Preset Programs

The X9i has a variety of preset programs. To be exact, you will have a total of 44 programs that are built into the console. You can rest with the satisfaction of knowing the programs are accurate as they were all designed by a professional personal trainer. These programs will help you focus on incline training, calorie burn, intensity or speed.  You also have samples of iFit workouts that are included.

Touchscreen with an Internet Browser

A touchscreen is expected, because that’s what you would find on most modern machines, but we never expected it to have an Internet browser.  The full color 7 inch touchscreen makes for a great display for viewing 44 present workouts, as well as the world wide web. As you are working out, you can check your email, read the news and even use social media. The modern screen also simplifies integrating the iFit Coach app into your workouts.

To give you an idea of what the screen looks like, here’s a close up picture of it:

iFit Coach Enabled

Speaking in iFit Coach, that’s right, this machine is iFit Coach enabled – you do need a subscription with iFit Coach, but trust us, it is well worth it. With iFit Coach, you can virtually train almost anywhere you go. For those of you that aren’t familiar with iFit, this is a fitness app – you can stream it on the X9i console. With a subscription, you will have access to a digital workout calendar, unlimited workout program downloads, health advice that is customized to fit your body and many other useful features. To give you an idea, the unlimited workout downloads include personalized workouts that are capable of adjusting to the machines inclined/decline and speed that is recommended. It also included Google Maps workouts that will adjust the track in order to impersonate topography. There’s a large amount of map routes that includes Google Street View, which will show on the screen or on your mobile device. iFit also has a large library of video workouts that were created by professional trainers.

Quiet Operation

This incline trainer is so quiet that you can workout without worrying about disturbing your roommates. This trainer is equipped with WhisperQuiet deck technology, which is responsible for absorbing sound with every step you take.

High Quality Motor

Don’t let the fact that it is quiet fool you, because the motor, believe it or not is high quality. It’s a 3.0 horsepower motor – if you’re familiar with motors, you’d realize that this is commercial quality. It even has a lifetime warranty. When it comes to changing inclined and speed, it responds quickly.

A Large Bet

The belt on the X9i is roomy – it measures 22” W x 60” L, offering more than enough for a workout surface. This gives you enough room to take full walking strides and swinging your arms.

Here’s a picture so that you can see how big the belt is:

Here’s a close up picture of the belt:

Sound System

Would you believe it if we told you this machine has a built in sound system? With the built-in sound system, you will be able to keep up with your favorite music. It has a set of 3” speakers and an iPod-compatible port.

Tablet Shelf

If you want to use your tablet while you workout, you’ll be happy to know that there’s a tablet shelf that will put your tablet at eye level.

Great Warranty

We really cannot get over the great warranty – the standard warranty package offers lifetime coverage on the frame, track motor and deck. There’s a five year warranty on the electronics and parts and two years for labor. They have extended service warranties that are available.

What We Don’t Like About the nordictrack x9i

With an exercise machine, we notice the flaws after using them for a couple of minutes. With the nordictrack x9i, we practically placed it under the microscope and in all honesty, we couldn’t find anything we didn’t like about the operation of the machine.

However, there is one aspect that we weren’t exactly pleased with and that was the full price. At the time of writing this review, the machine cost around $2,999. However, various retailers online may be offering discounts.

Overall, we believe the X9i is one of the top machines of 2017 and for good reason. It is a good machine for serious walkers and has many of the same specs as the high-end treadmills. With the X9i, you will be able to make the most out of your time. Looking at the machine, we find that the extras it has is more than enough to keep the user motivated and the training guidance is a major benefit that we cannot overlook. While many are looking at the Weslo treadmill, others are looking at the X9i, which is a viable option if you’re looking for a little more in a treadmill. Yes, the price is a little high, but it is well worth it, considering what it offers. Plus, the warranty package that is nesting behind it makes it so that you can buy it without much of a risk.

Now, we’re going to leave you off with an additional picture of the treadmill that you can look at …
