This NordicTrack machine is equipped with one of the heaviest flywheels you can find. The Commercial 14.9 uses a 32 pound flywheel. If you’re familiar with flywheels and the pounds, you’d understand just how heavy this is for a flywheel. When it comes to an elliptical trainer, the flywheel is probably one of the most needed essentials due to the fact that it points to the overall feel of the trainer. So, a heavy flywheel is definitely a good thing.
Silent Magnetic Resistance
Combine this 32 pound flywheel with the Silent Magnetic Resistance, or SMR for short, and you have a super smooth stride ahead of you.
This drive system offers 24 resistance levels, has an adjustable incline of 0 to 20 degrees and a 20 inch power adjustable stride. When it comes to using this trainer, just like with using the best treadmill, there are so many different ways you will be able to use it. You have the ability to switch the stride height, stride length and the intensity, making it an extremely versatile piece of workout equipment. For this reason, it is great for comfort and training purposes. All at once, with the NordicTrack Elite 14.9, you will be able to target specific muscles and focus on cardiovascular endurance. Basically, you’ll be getting that all-over total body workout everyone is talking about in the gym these days. You do want an all-over total body workout, right?
A workout machine isn’t great, unless it has a reliable, modern console and with the NordicTrack name behind this machine, again, it is safe to assume it has one. This piece of workout equipment has a reliable console that is capable of keeping you up to date on your workout stats, while it keeps you entertained and motivated all at the same time.
There’s a 10 inch web-enabled color touchscreen, which is pretty big, and many do not expect to find a touchscreen this large on exercise equipment. Since it is web-enabled, you will be able to keep up with everything going on online, while you exercise. This color touchscreen is also iFit enabled and it works with a wireless heart rate monitor, which is include
With this machine, you have a total of 35 workout apps built-in. That’s right, without having to turn to any app or anything, you have 35 workout apps right in front of you. This is more than enough to keep you motivated.
If you feel the need to bring an extra device along with you, there’s a tablet holder. The tablet holder is designed in a way to keep your device secure and safe as you’re exercising.
We weren’t surprised with the audio options as this is something we would expect from NordiTrack. The audio options include two 2” speakers, and it is compatible with your iPod.
On the Console
There is a water bottle holder, so you can have your water readily available. Along with the water bottle holder, there’s an Audobreeze adjustable workout fan and one-touch controls for both resistance and incline right on the console in front of you. On the stationary handlebars, there’s in-handle controls, so you will be able to make fast changes to your incline and resistance without having to stop your workout.
Our Favorite Features
Now that we just gave you a list of some of the features on the NordicTrack Elite 14.9, we thought you’d like to know our favorite features.
Softtouch (TM) Multi-Positional Upper-Body Grips
We like Softtouch, because it is responsible for helping you keep balanced and comfortable as you’re working those muscles that are in your upper and lower body.
Power Adjustable Incline
We absolutely love the power adjustable incline that takes you from 0 to 20. This type of option can only be found in the best ellipticals. With this type of incline/decline, it is easy for you to target different muscle groups and burn through calories with interval training. What’s really cool about the incline/decline feature would be the fact that it is automatic. This means you can make the adjustments while you’re exercising, without having to stop, get off the machine, and manually make the adjustments. This is a feature that we have found many bragging about when it comes to this machine.
32 Pound Flywheel
The 32 pound flywheel is a really good feature that we’re quite proud of. It features Silent Magnetic Resistance, making it one of the quietest, smoothest motors you’re going to find on the market.
There’s a power adjustable stride of 20 inches. For this reason, it is great for multiple people of different sizes. So, for example, if you’re 5’2, someone who is over 6’1 will be able to comfortably use this machine by making adjustments to the stride.
Along with the stride being adjustable, the pedals are adjustable. This feature will stop your feet from falling asleep in the pedals.
With this machine, there are over 30 built-in workout programs and personally, we feel that this is more than enough workout programs for most people. However, we choose to take our tablet along with us and use out iFit subscription. With iFit, we have so much we can choose from, everything from workout programs to videos and apps that help us stay motivated, so if you do not have iFit right now, we highly recommend it.
Web-Enabled Color Touchscreen Display
Okay, we cannot forget to mention the web-enabled color touchscreen display – 10 inches? That’s a pretty big screen on a workout machine. Like we mentioned, we use our tablet while on the machine, but we still love the web-enabled color touchscreen display. In all actuality, you don’t really need a tablet, because with this touchscreen, you can keep track of your social media and check emails. You can also stream music, which is a major bonus because music helps keep you motivated during your workout.
Smart Console Features
The smart, intuitive console features is definitely one of our favorite aspects of the workout machine. This includes the one-touch controls and the integrated tablet holder. We cannot forget about the Autobreeze workout fan, which automatically adjusts based on the intensity of your workout. So, if your workout is really intense, the fan will blow a lot of air on you. This technique helps you stay cool during your workout routine, which is really cool.
What We Do Not Like about the NordicTrack Elite 14
When you dig deep enough, regardless of how good the product is, you’re going to find some aspects you do not like. Just as there are some flaws with the Schwinn 430 elliptical, the NordicTrack Elite 14.9 isn’t without flaws. In this section we are going to tell you about some things we do not like about the NordicTrack Elite 14.9.
The console is a bit narrower than some of the other more spacious ones on the market. It only has one water bottle holder, but that isn’t really that big of a deal. There’s limited storage space as well, which is a problem for some people.
No USB Charging Port
There’s no USB charging port, which is a downfall in our book. This means you won’t be able to charge and use your devices at the same time, while you workout.
The warranty is limited. There’s a lifetime cover on the frame, which is good, but not the motor. What good is a lifetime cover on the frame, when the motor is usually the one that goes bad?
All in all, the NordicTrack 14.9 elliptical is a great machine – it will do a good job at keeping you motivated and with a total of 35 built-in programs, you don’t really need an iFit subscription, unless you really want it.
